Regardless of how he plays tonight and next Thursday, the Packers need to find room on the 53-man roster for rookie outside linebacker Jayrone Elliott. And my opinion has nothing to do with the 3 sacks in 4 plays he recorded against the Rams. Truth be told, I might’ve been able to beat left tackle Sean Hooey on that night. The reason the former Toledo star deserves a spot on the 53 is because he has more potential as a pass rusher than Frank Zombo, Vic So’oto and Dezman Moses – all fellow undrafted free agents who GM Ted Thompson deemed worthy of development in the past few years. And while it’s true that none of those players amounted to much in the NFL, that’s not the point. The point is that Elliott has more natural talent than any of them, and thus deserves the same opportunity.
