Last week’s poll asked if you had to choose, would you keep coach Mike McCarthy or general manager Ted Thompson. Hundreds of you voted and the overwhelming choice was Thompson. That’s what I expected, but I’m not so sure I agree. As much as I respect Thompson, I think he’d be easier to replace than McCarthy. Seattle’s John Schneider and Kansas City’s John Dorsey have proven themselves to be quality GMs elsewhere, and it’s likely that president and CEO Mark Murphy would be able to lure one of the two back to Green Bay. But who would replace McCarthy? Coordinators Tom Clements and Dom Capers and assistant head coach Winston Moss are probably the best internal candidates, but the first two are in their 60s and the third is responsible for developing A.J. Hawk and Brad Jones. Plus, there are no Schneiders and Dorseys out there to lure back, unless you’re convinced that new Giants offensive coordinator Ben McAdoo is the real deal and not just Sherman Lewis reincarnate.
