Coach Mike McCarthy likes versatile players, so it’s no wonder the Packers are reportedly showing interest in Lawrence Martin. According to college2pro.com, Oakland and Tampa Bay are also taking a close look at the former South Florida Bull. Martin, who stands six-foot-three and weighs about 315 pounds, saw action at right guard, tight end and fullback while in college. The fact he played so many different positions tells me he probably wasn’t very good at any of them. But the fact he played so many different positions at over 300 pounds also tells me he’s probably a very good athlete. And very good athletes who weigh over 300 pounds will always intrigue NFL general managers. Martin, who is projected by most scouts as an interior offensive lineman, is unlikely to hear his name called next month, but keep an eye out for him when the Packers start signing undrafted free agents. Because if any player in this draft is perfect for a year-long stint on the practice squad, it’s this young man.
